Description
Using simple visual means—a few men talking, a boulder, a boat pulled ashore, a rocky outcrop in the background, and an impressive stack of clouds—Nuijen composed this beautiful scene in the final year of his life, executed with a steady hand and precise brushwork. A barely discernible patch of light above the horizon on the right lends the small scene a touch of mystery.
